Steel Wire

Steel Wire

This is a section of steel wire, around 100mm long and 2mm in diameter. There are at least six more sections of steel wire visible on the sculpture’s surface, and most likely many more went into its construction. César’s welding electrodes were also made of steel wire, and some of the wire on the sculpture may be the spent ends of these electrodes. On the other side of the sculpture more steel wires are visible. These are laid across a slopping surface at the top of work. They appear to mimic how steel beams are used in roof construction.
