Neat Welding

Neat Welding

A close up view of César's Habitation sculpture showing neat welding of steel sheets
Neat Welding

This section shows the neatest section of welding on the sculpture. It is somewhat reminiscent of patterns of brickwork or shingles on the exterior of a house. Each of the shapes visible here are separate pieces of steel sheet.

At the top of this section, the artist’s hand movements are visible in the delicate striations of the molten weld material. This section also displays spatter, bubbling and remnants of dark grey  ‘slag’ – impure metal, left over from the welding process. All of these terms are described in more detail in the ‘Welding’ section of this webpage.
