Geinius eximius Scalptor, Pictórque peritus,
Inventor felix, judicióque bonus.
Et Belli et Pacis pingens Insignia, gratus
Ipse Duci Belli qui artibus egregius.

Translation of Inscription:

Jacques de Gheyn. Painter and Sculptor
De Gheyn is an excellent engraver, and an experienced painter, a lucky inventor,¹ Gillis Mostaert.and sound in judgment. Painting the standards of both war and peace, he is himself pleasing to the leader of the war, who is outstanding in skill. ²
