‘Fashion on Film in the Amateur Movie Database’

The Amateur Movie Database includes more than 1500 films (1923-1971). Drawing on this corpus of films, and using digital humanities techniques to excavate patterns of content, theme, and geographical variation, this paper shows how the amateur movie camera captured and mediated people’s creative engagement with dress.
