The Re-working Manet project brief and learning resource is designed for secondary and college students and teachers running their own project in school. This resource has developed out of a collaborative project involving a group of young art historians and artist Jeremy Deller. Responding to Édouard Manet’s A Bar at the Folies-Bergère (1882), the young people and Jeremy worked collectively to produce an artwork for The Courtauld’s Leon Kossoff Learning Centre.
The resource offers a model for trying different approaches to art history and generating creative and contemporary responses to this artwork. The research themes, activities and reflections included here have emerged from the group involved in the Learning Centre project.
