Welcome to the Re-working Manet learning resource. This online resource is designed for students aged between 14-18 who wish to engage with the Re-working Manet project and discover more about Édouard Manet’s famous A Bar at the Folies-Bergère (1882) painting.  This resource has developed out of a collaborative project involving a group of young art historians and artist Jeremy Deller. Responding to Édouard Manet’s A Bar at the Folies-Bergère (1882), the young people and Jeremy worked collectively to produce an artwork for The Courtauld’s Leon Kossoff Learning Centre.

The resource offers a model for trying different approaches to art history and generating creative and contemporary responses to this artwork. The research themes, activities and reflections included here have emerged from the group involved in the Learning Centre project.

The site can be navigated using the menu bar above or the images on each page. The content can be explored in any order but The brief and Manet’s Bar are good places to start.
