In 2019 a team of 9 volunteers worked with Braintree Museum to undertake training in conducting and editing oral history interviews. After months of hard work, interviewing former Courtauld Ltd employees from the Braintree and Halstead areas and members of the Courtauld family, they created 10 themed audio files to sit at the heart of the display about Courtauld factories in the exhibition Courtaulds: Origins, Innovation, Family (on display at Braintree Museum 1st February – 30th May 2020).
The volunteers feedback about the project was incredibly positive, many said they had enjoyed learning new skills and meeting people, and most said they would like to take part in similar projects in the future. A celebration of the volunteer’s work and the contributions of the former Courtaulds employees was held at Braintree Museum while the exhibition was open, and the audio recordings are now available online.
